We at Data Crystal have made it standard policy that all ROM hacks featured on this site must be rated with the appropriate template provided as to protect those that would otherwise not realize what they may about to look at. Our ratings are based off of the ESRB's, with the same criteria needed to match one of four ratings.

Those ratings, as well as the criteria to match theme, are as follows:

  • Image:Ratingsymbol e.gif Everyone - ROM hacks rated Everyone have content that may be suitable for ages 6 and older. Hacks in this category may contain minimal cartoon, fantasy or mild violence and/or infrequent use of mild language.
  • Image:Ratingsymbol t.gif Teen - ROM hacks rated Teen have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Hacks in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.
  • Image:Ratingsymbol m.gif Mature - ROM hacks rated Mature have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Hacks in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.
  • Image:Ratingsymbol a.gif Adults Only - ROM hacks rated Adults Only have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older. Hacks in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity.
  • Image:Ratingsymbol rp.gif A fifth rating, Unknown, must only be applied when the hack has not been extensively played nor is their suitable information that suggests criteria meeting one of the ratings listed above.
